The Wyrmbane Levy is a persistent military presence composed of mortal conscripts originally raised to combat a now-forgotten creature. Based on recovered fragments, the force began as a short-term levy, drawn from local settlements beyond the forest’s edge and issued basic equipment, minimal training, and a formal command hierarchy. They entered the Sundrown Wilds at full strength. No return has been recorded.

The group remains active. Members travel in small cohorts and maintain a disciplined, though inconsistent, approach to engagement. They conduct drills, patrol known clearings, and initiate combat based on unclear signals. Warbands report encountering the Levy near collapsed trail networks or on long-unused roads, often mid-march or mid-formation. Contact is typically brief and procedural. Most members avoid conversation unless addressed in formal terms.

Command structure is fragmentary. The original leadership is presumed dead. Authority appears to pass informally between bearers of a weathered conscription document stored in a waxed pouch. No member can confirm the current chain of command. Names are drawn from a recited roll-call, and order is established based on when a name is called. Individuals skipped in the rotation do not participate in drills or combat. Some remain inactive for extended periods, waiting to be named again.

Uniforms vary in construction but remain color-consistent: orange outer layers and green wrappings. This standard is enforced through repetition rather than regulation. Equipment is worn but maintained. Most banners are unreadable. A small number bear the word “Wyrmbane,” which may refer to the warband’s current name, its original campaign, or a misinterpreted heraldic phrase.

The Levy shows no sign of collapse or desertion. Members follow orders as they understand them and treat their continued presence as obligation rather than choice. They do not pursue alliances and rarely initiate conflict unless approached during maneuvers. Individuals taken prisoner or separated from the group often return unassisted within weeks, rejoining at the next roll-call.

To the Sundrown Wilds, their presence is tolerated. Paths remain open for them that close to others. Whether this is recognition or coincidence has not been confirmed.
